About the event
Martial Arts Championships, part of Sydney WorldPride, WorldPride Sports. In the spirit of building an LGBTI Global Martial Arts Community, the SWPMA Championships, would like to offer a multi-style Martial Arts Tournament that offers opportunities to promote sporting excellence in Martial Arts as the development of Self Defence and Safety Skills.
Tournament Director Penny Gulliver 6th Dan Black Belt and Chief Instructor GLMA Martial Arts and Well known LGBTI Pioneer initiated these championships to extend the LGBTI global sporting village to Sydney attaching it to Sydney World Pride the most exciting and innovative FESTIVAL that has certainly been held in the Southern Hemisphere, if not the world.
The Tournament will include Non-Contact Point Sparring, Self Defence categories, Forms, Weapon forms, performance opportunities, workshops from overseas guests and more. A free Self Defence Workshop for World Pride participants and allies will be run on Thursday 23rd Feb 2023.

Rules and categories will be organised with the guidelines of The International Association of Gay and Lesbian Martial Artists [IAGLMA] www.iaglma.org -- the organisation that traditionally runs the Martial Arts Events at The Gay Games since the 1980s.
Outreach both locally, nationally and internationally will be focused on, to get participation and networking from all over the global, regional and indigenous communities will be particularly targeted.
Spectator entry is FREE. No registration is required. Everyone is welcome!
