About the event

Martial Arts Championships, part of Sydney Mardi Gras 2024. In the spirit of building an LGBTIQA+global Martial Arts community, the MGMA Championships will offer a multi-style Martial Arts Tournament to promote sporting excellence in the Martial Arts, and development of Self Defence and Safety Skills.

Tournament Director Penny Gulliver - 6th Dan Black Belt and Chief Instructor GLMA Martial Arts - founded the championships to welcome the global sporting village to Sydney as part of World Pride 2023 & Mardi Gras 2024. This will be Penny's the third tournament as founder and director. preparing an Australian team to be a force in Gay Games, Valencia, Spain, 2026.

This exciting and innovative festival will bring athletes, artists, ideas and energy from around the world together in the nothern & southern hemisphere..

The Tournament is FREE to come as a spectator and $100 to enter as a participant with unlimited entries to divisions you qualify for!

KGV Recreation Centre, The Rocks, 2000​

Medals will be presented for 1,2,3, and a Trophy for the club with the most diversity - Colour Theme -  Purple and Orange.

Rules and categories will be organised with the guidelines of The International Association of Gay and Lesbian Martial Artists [IAGLMA] www.iaglma.org -- the organisation that traditionally runs the Martial Arts Events at The Gay Games since the 1980s. This excludes the continuous sparring events. 

Outreach both locally, nationally and internationally will be focused on, to get participation and networking from all over the global, regional and indigenous communities will be particularly targeted.

Spectator entry is FREE. No registration is required. Everyone is welcome!
