About Penny Gulliver

Penny Gulliver, founder and Chief Instructor of GLMA, is a Government Accredited level 2 Coach with The Australian Sports Commission and is a Sixth Dan Black Belt in Kung Fu. She has a Level 2 Referee qualification with the Australian National All Styles and has received a level 2 Referee/Judge qualification with the International Sports Karate Association(ISKA).She Is also a level C judge in The Australian Martial Arts Championships Tournament Circuit(AMAC) She is a long standing member of the Australian Kung Fu and Wushu Federation(AKWF) and was  a Kickboxing Champion in the 80s.

Penny  has been teaching people self defense, kick boxing and kung fu,kids kung fu for over 40 years

She established GLMA in the late 90s and the club has been going strongly ever since.

The recently formed Newtown Martial Arts co-exists with GLMA to allow  the local community to fit under a large umbrella where everyone feels included .

  Members regularly compete in mainstream tournaments and constantly win and place in the above mentioned tournament circuits .

Penny was an initiator of The First Rape Crisis Centre in Sydney - Author “Penny Gullivers Self Defence Handbook For Women “ And has been consulted on Self Defence Issues for Women in Mainstream Media such and on television having regular segments on Til 10, and has appeared Good Morning Australia , A Current Affair ,and 60 minutes .and others

She has been quoted in newspapers , magazines ,social media  and radio  programs for comments on issues related to violence prevention . 

Penny has run self defence workshops for over 30 years for the Lgbti community being sort out by ACON  after a spate of Gay Murders in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney in the 90s   That are still being investigated today .From these workshops for the Lgbti community - participants wanted to go further thus  GLMA Martial Arts was born - also known as Newtown Martial Arts  - All are welcome to train as GLMA catered to the Lgbti community as well as allies  and the community as a whole -
